When Inanna fell into the underworld, through the mud that tore the gold from her ears, through the seven gates that divested her of her royalty, all was stripped from her until nothing was left but a corpse, a piece of rotting meat that hung on a hook in her sister's den. And when the people cried and begged for her to return, no one would save her. She had entered into the underworld of her own accord. And no one returns from that place.
But then, the little kurgarra and the gallatar flew into the underworld like tiny flies and bargained with Erishkigal for the corpse hanging on the hook. They sprinkle a little food and a little water on her, and up up she rises.
Even the Queen of Heaven needed to be let off the hook.
